Jousting in the churchyard
POSTED AT THE MANOR GATE To all householders of Middle Woe,
Following last week's regrettable incident involving two lances, one church pew, and a greatly alarmed verger, the Office of the Reeve has determined that jousting within the churchyard shall henceforth be prohibited.
Any future jousting shall instead take place in the field behind The Drunken Goose, where participants may inconvenience fewer parishioners and where assistance, should it become necessary, is more readily available.
The Office reminds all competitors that horses remain subject to the ordinary rules governing the village highway.
Parishioners are further reminded that the churchyard is intended for worship, quiet reflection, and burial.
It is not intended for tournaments.
Failure to comply may result in further notices.
