The Village of Middle Woe

Parchment Shortages

POSTED AT THE MANOR GATE To all householders of Middle Woe,

The Office of the Reeve regrets to announce that, owing to a shortage of suitable parchment, the posting of official notices has become increasingly difficult.

A temporary proposal to write notices upon cabbage leaves has been abandoned.

This decision follows the discovery that cabbage leaves are themselves in short supply.

Mistress Agnes Nettlewood, who styles herself Herbalist of Middle Woe, has assured this Office that the shortage is entirely unrelated to her recent botanical activities.

The Office accepts this assurance with appropriate caution.

Until a more satisfactory writing surface can be obtained, parishioners are reminded that all future notices remain fully binding, despite not being written down, publicly displayed, or in certain cases, entirely composed.

Ignorance of unpublished notices shall not be accepted as a defence.

Parishioners are further advised not to consume any official communications should they unexpectedly appear upon edible vegetables.

Likewise, any medicinal preparations offered by Mistress Nettlewood promising miraculous improvement should be approached with suitable restraint and a sensible degree of suspicion.

Further notices will be issued as soon as a method of issuing notices has been identified.
