The Village of Middle Woe

Village Water Rights

POSTED AT THE MANOR GATE UNDER SEAL Given under Our Hand and Seal,

In light of the present spell of warm weather, We have received reports of increasing disagreement concerning the use of streams, ponds, wells and other waters within the Manor of Middle Woe.

Let it therefore be known that no tenant, cottar or other inhabitant shall engage in quarrels, affrays or fisticuffs over the drawing of water.

Furthermore, We are obliged to remind Our tenants that all waters lying within the bounds of Our Manor are, by long custom, held under Our authority.

We are therefore somewhat surprised to discover that this matter has lately become the subject of debate.

It is not.

Any further discussion upon the ownership of the village pond shall be regarded as both unnecessary and tiresome.

Given under Our Hand and Seal,

Sir Edmund de Wode Lord of the Manor of Middle Woe
